GLOVER & SMOCK. One of the first notions businesses in Dubuque, Glover & Smock opened for business in 1850. The officers of the company were Henry B. GLOVER, John GLOVER, and G. V. Smock. Increased business caused them to relocate in 1867 and then to the Whitaker block, at the time the only marble front building in the city.

In December 1875, Smock withdrew from the business. On January 1, 1876 M. R. DEWSTOE, A. J. Parker, and Lester C. BISSELL were taken in as partners as the company changed its name to H. B. GLOVER COMPANY.

The 1865 Dubuque City Directory listed 122 Main.

The 1867 Dubuque City Directory gave no address for this business.

The 1868 Guide, Gazetteer and Directory of the Dubuque & Soux (sic) City Railroad stated that this business was located at 142 Main.

The 1873-74 Dubuque City Directory listed the address as 154 and 154 1/2 Main.
