Krantz, Florence. (Marengo, IA, Mar. 17, 1900--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 13, 1996). Krantz, a graduate of Iowa State Teachers College and the University of Chicago, began forty years of teaching in the [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]] in 1925 and served as the head of the Commercial Department at [[DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL]] for twenty-five years.  Organizing a DHS Business Club, she arranged "on-the-job training" for her students.  (1) Remembered for her willingness to devote long hours outside of school to helping students succeed, she was designated national runner-up as the most Outstanding Senior Citizen of the United States by the Day's Inn Foundation.

Krantz served as the state representative for the University of Chicago Alumni Association and was credited with encouraging [[BERWANGER, Jay|Jay BERWANGER]] to attend college where he became an all-American and the first [[HEISMAN TROPHY]] winner.
