After receiving his formal education, Hoffmann learned the trade of cabinet making, working with several different companies until he had thoroughly mastered the business and began work on his own. He later formed a partnership with S. Korman in the undertaking business. Hoffmann carried on operations along that line for five years as Hoffmann & Korman before buying out the business. Hoffmann saw the business continued by his son, Mathias Hoffmann II. The company became HOFFMANN-SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOMES AND CREMATION SERVICE.
