MOZENA, Kenneth E. (Dubuque, IA, July 28, 1921--Dubuque, IA, Oct. 5, 2000). Mozena attended the Rock Elementary School in rural Dubuque County near the DUBUQUE COUNTY FAIR grounds and one year at WASHINGTON JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL in Dubuque. Beginning with the auction of dogs at the age of seventeen, he worked in several tri-state area sales barns as a clerk and auctioneer. Business was good with little competition. He also farmed until 1965 running dairy, beef, and hog operations on two farms he owned north of the JOHN DEERE DUBUQUE WORKS.

Mozena expanded into the real estate business in the 1960s and established TRI-STATE AUCTION AND REALTY SERVICE INC. In 1991 he celebrated more than fifty years in the auction business.

Mozena served as president of the Dubuque County Fair Board, Dubuque County Cooperative Dairy, and the Dubuque Real Estate Board. He was also a director of the Dubuque County Farm Bureau Insurance and served as a 4-H leader for thirty-three years. His sons included Dr. Darryl Mozena, a frequent contributor to this encyclopedia; Dan MOZENA, Jeff Mozena, president of PREMIER BANK, and Terry MOZENA.
