JAEGGI, Albert M. (Dubuque, IA, May 30, 1866--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 10, 1933). Jaeggi attended Dubuque public schools, St. Mary's, ST. JOSEPH ACADEMY and BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE. Beginning his career in retail sales as a bundle boy for the firm of Keys and Sullivan, Jaeggi rose to the position of silk buyer for the successor firm of SULLIVAN AND STAMPFER.
In 1885 he enlisted as a private in Company A, Fourth Regiment, of the Iowa National Guard and was soon promoted to sergeant. He was then given a commission as a second lieutenant and later became a first lieutenant of Company A, First Regiment. At the beginning of the SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR, Jaeggi was promoted to captain. Throughout the war, he served as captain and adjutant of the 49th Iowa volunteers. On December 18, 1910 he was presented by the state with a diamond medal for twenty-five years of continuous service.
Returning from the war, he became a partner in the firm of Sullivan, Stampfer, and Jaeggi Carpet Company. He later served as secretary and treasurer of the Sullivan and Stampfer Company and its successor, the J. F. STAMPFER COMPANY.
Joining other business associates, Jaeggi in 1917 took over the ownership of the JAMES LEVI AND COMPANY department store. Jaeggi served as president and general manager until the dissolution of the firm.
