HAAS, Urban J. (Dubuque, IA-Dubuque, IA, Oct., 1961). In 1927 Haas and Cyril WISSEL established H & W MOTOR EXPRESS as a one-truck operation between Dubuque and Chicago.
At the time of Haas' death, the company was a three million dollar business operating in Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota with connections to most of the United States and Canada. The company had 280 employees. Haas, also secretary treasurer of the DUBUQUE STORAGE & TRANSFER COMPANY, was a member of the Iowa and American Trucking Association and the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Haas was succeeded in the business by his son, Urban R. HAAS.
