GREGOIRE, Charles H. J.(St. Genevieve Co., MO, June 10, 1821--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 11, 1902). Charles H. J. was the son of Charles H. GREGOIRE was born in 1798 in this country. The father of Charles H. was a native of France and was involved in the French Revolution.

Gregoire H. J. had charge of the first steam ferryboat on the MISSISSIPPI RIVER at Dubuque after the ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD reached Galena. He operated the ferry until 1864 when he sold out to the railroad to manage large real estate holdings in Iowa and two hundred eighty-nine acres of MINING property in Missouri.
