BLINKS, Barbara
BLINKS, Barbara. (Dover, DE, Feb. 21, 1942-- ). Beginning in 1964, Blinks, the wife of Edwin D. BLINKS, worked in the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT as a classroom teacher; cataloger, elementary school library collections; and learning resource center teacher. She was also an instructor of children's literature at CLARKE COLLEGE from 1977-1978.
Blinks served as Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star (1982), president of P.E.O. Chapter HL (1989-1990), and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE alumni boards. She also worked as an interpreter at the HAM HOUSE during its annual ice cream social and "Home for the Holidays." (1)
Blinks was included in Outstanding Young Women of America (1974) and the 5th Edition of Who's Who in Education. In 1972 she was named first runner-up in the Charles Schribner's Sons Awards. The awards were made to four librarians working with children--two in elementary libraries and two in public libraries. Blinks was at the time a learning-resource center teacher at KENNEDY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. (2)
In 1988 she became a part-time faculty member at CLARKE COLLEGE. (3)
