MCCARTHY-RUFF, Mary Jane. (Monticello, IA, Feb. 11, 1949--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 6, 2009) The daughter of Ralph ad Loretta (Hirtz) McCarthy, Mary Jane was a graduate of Western Dubuque High School and the University of Northern Iowa where she received her Bachelor of Science in special education.

She taught in the Cedar Rapids School District before moving to Dubuque and joining the staff of the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. She married Donald Ruff in 1996.

In addition to teaching, Mary Jane was involved in productions at the BARN COMMUNITY THEATER, Xavier Follies, and the GRAND OPERA HOUSE.
