ANDREW, William. (Scotland, Nov. 20, 1820-San Francisco, CA, Oct. 10, 1896). Wholesale dealer in heavy and shelf hardware. Andrew temporarily moved to Dubuque in 1846, but left the city for a three-year stay in California.

In 1853 Andrew returned to Dubuque and entered into partnership with Alfred TREDWAY. The men operated a firm known as Andrew and Tredway at 484 and 488 Main Street. This business, later known as A. Tredway and Sons, was advertised as the first hardwood wholesaler west of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER. After twenty-five years, both partners retired from business. Andrew served as a stockholder and director of the Commercial National Bank.
