PLATZ, Joseph. (Wurtemberg, Germany. Apr. 8, 1829-- ). Manufacturer of lime. Platz sailed for the United States at the age of twenty. He arrive in New Orleans and then made his way up the MISSISSIPPI RIVER to Dubuque. He worked as a stone mason for one year and left the city for several years. When he returned, he worked again as a stone mason until 1861 when he constructed a lime kiln at EAGLE POINT. He remained in this business until 1892. He purchased real estate and spent his latter years looking after his properties.
