PLATZ, Joseph

PLATZ, Joseph. (Wurtemberg, Germany. Apr. 8, 1829--July 22, 1901). Platz sailed for the United States at the age of twenty. He arrived in New Orleans and then made his way up the MISSISSIPPI RIVER to Dubuque.

Platz worked as a stone mason from 1852 until 1853. After a trip to New OPrleans, he resumed his work as a stone mason until 1861 when he constructed a lime kiln at EAGLE POINT. Platz remained in this business until 1892. He purchased real estate and spent his latter years looking after his properties.
