(Dubuque, IA--  ) In 2009 while in northern Italy to photograph skiers Darcee Newt and [[MOND, Eben|Eben MOND]], Wallis, a frequent photographer for the ''Telegraph Herald'', found himself signed up to participate in the European Telemark Free Ride Championship. Skiing down the 3,000-foot face of a mountain went well before a foot race to end the competition. Judges scored competitors on aggressiveness, fluidity, and technique. To his surprise, since he had not intended to compete, Wallis won his division.
