Among other executive boards on which he was a member were those of [[CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE]], [[DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT]], [[ALVERNO APARTMENTS]], [[STONEHILL COMMUNITIES]], [[LORAS COLLEGE]] Board of Regents, [[SAINT MARK COMMUNITY CENTER]], [[DUBUQUE RESCUE MISSION]], [[HILLCREST FAMILY SERVICES]] [[CLARKE COLLEGE]], [[OPERATION NEW VIEW]], and the [[DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION]]. | |||
His philanthropy was also recognized. Among his contributions, Herrig helped raise $82,000 to restore the gold dome on the [[DUBUQUE COUNTY COURTHOUSE]], a $1 million donation to Loras College, and organized a fundraising effort for a new Dubuque shelter for women and children. Herrig was named the 1995 Outstanding Philanthropist. He received the [[FIRST CITIZEN AWARD]] from the ''Telegraph Herald'' in 1996. | |||

HERRIG, Eldon. (Dubuque, IA, June 6, 1926--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 8, 2013). The son of George and Catherine (Kalmes) Herrig, Eldon graduated from St. Donatus High School and earned his B.A. in economics from LORAS COLLEGE.
