PLATZ, Joseph. (Wurtemberg, Germany. Apr. 8, 1829-- ). Manufacturer of lime. Platz sailed for the United States at the age of twenty. He arrived in New Orleans and then made his way up the [[MISSISSIPPI RIVER]] to Dubuque.

Platz worked as a stone mason for one year before leaving the city for several years. When he returned, he resumed his work as a stone mason until 1861 when he constructed a lime kiln at [[EAGLE POINT]]. Platz remained in this business until 1892. He purchased real estate and spent his latter years looking after his properties.
