A. TREDWAY AND SONS. A. Tredway and Sons was the first hardware wholesaler west of the MISSISSIPPI RIVER when it was started in 1853 by Alfred TREDWAY. Salesmen of the company traveled throughout Iowa and parts of Illinois, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Nebraska selling merchandise.

In 1929 the company was purchased and became KRETSCHMER-TREDWAY COMPANY. The merger allowed the expansion of the company from selling case iron heating stoves and wagon hardware into plumbing, heating, air conditioning and hardware.

The 1890-91 Dubuque City Directory listed 4675-471 Iowa.
