Harold served with the U.S. Army in the 1255th Engineer Combat Battalion during [[WORLD WAR II]]. After his honorable discharge, he joined his father at William Becker & Sons Stone Company, managing from 1946-1976. In 1976, he co-founded Becker & Becker Stone Company with his son Fred, retiring in 1999. Harold, an avid hunter, fisherman, and conservationist, was a lifelong member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association of America, the Iowa State Trap Shooting Association, and Ducks Unlimited.
