SCHREIBER, Charles. (Hanover Germany, 1839--Dubuque, IA, July 1, 1928). Coming to Dubuque in 1852, Schreiber entered the grocery business. He remained in it until 1859 when he began a stove and hardware business which evolved into shelf hardware, wholesale and retail. This became J. MACLAY & CO.
Maclay retired in 1881 and the name of the company was changed to SCHREIBER AND CONCHAR MANUFACTURING COMPANY. Schreiber retired in 1904.
