WOOTTON, Ignatus E. (Kentucky, Apr. 22, 1810--Dubuque, IA, Jan. 1, 1892). Wootton, one of Dubuque's earliest settlers, moved here on October 10, 1832 after serving in the BLACK HAWK WAR and assisted in the survey of the Half-Breed Tract in far southeastern Iowa, the first surveying done in the state. He held the local offices of constable and deputy sheriff before his election as treasurer of Dubuque County.

He later worked for the KNAPP, STOUT AND COMPANY and engaged in mining.
