WOODWARD, Mirdza (Dobele, Latvia, Aug. 29, 1942--Iowa City, IA, Dec. 28, 2018). A graduate of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE in 1963 with a major in German, she taught at the Farley (Iowa) Junior High School from 1969 to 1975 teaching English from 1969 to 1971 and German from 1971 to 1975. She later worked at ENNOBLE MANOR CARE CENTER. After her husband died in 2000, Mirdza and her daughter Anna Woodward-Klosterman adopted the men of the DUBUQUE RESCUE MISSION for a day and cooked a Christmas meal and planned a social time.

Mirdza regularly collected donations for RESOURCES UNITE. In keeping with her practice of finding out what people needed, she recently partnered with Resources Unite to establish a Pet Food Pantry to help the needy and their pets.
