WOLCOTT, S.A. (Orange Co., NY, Sept. 8, 1824--Unknown). Wolcott moved to Boston and worked in railroading for fifteen years. In 1857, he came to Iowa. Wolcott farmed for a short time and then returned East to railroading. (1)

In 1863, Wolcott came to Dubuque and the following year was appointed trainmaster on the DUBUQUE AND SIOUX CITY RAILROAD. He remained with that road and the ILLINOIS CENTRAL RAILROAD until the spring of 1871. He then became Assistant Superintendent for the CHICAGO, CLINTON, DUBUQUE AND MINNESOTA RAILROAD COMPANY in 1873. (2) His years of experience with the railroad led to the naming by 1895 of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen, S. A. Wolcott, Lodge No. 60. (3)

In 1879 he was the president of the DUBUQUE DRAINAGE COMPANY.

By 1899 Wolcott and his wife were living near Fort Dodge. He owned 640 acres of land, 100 head of cattle, 250 head of hogs, and twenty horses. (4)
