TOEPEL, Arthur C. (Dubuque, IA, July 7, 1917--Magdeburg, Germany June 29, 1944). A bombardier on a B-24 Liberator, Lt. Toepel was awarded the Air Medal for his participation in bomber combat over occupied Europe during WORLD WAR II. The airman was reported missing in a mission on June 29th.

His father, William V. TOEPEL, presented the scale model STATUE OF LIBERTY MEMORIAL to the Northeast Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America in memory of his son. The attached plaque reads," A Scout Who Gave His Life June 29, 1944 In Helping To Preserve Our Liberty."

In 2010 the memorial was still standing in WASHINGTON PARK.
