SLAGHT, Maynard R.
SLAUGHT, Maynard A. (Dubuque, IA, Mar. 18, 1920--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 3, 2015). The son of Ray H. and Lucille (Hentrich) Slaught, Raymond was a 1938 graduate of DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL.
He served his country in the Army Air Corps from 1942-1944 during WORLD WAR II. While stationed in England from 1943-1944 he flew over 100 missions of which 68 were considered purely combat. He earned 38 Air Medals for his service including the Presidential and Distinguished Unit Citations, 2 Distinguished Flying Crosses with Oak Leaf Clusters, and an Air Medal with 2 Silver and 2 Bronze Clusters.
Maynard returned to Dubuque and married Anne Rowan in 1945. He worked for ST. REGIS PAPER COMPANY for thirty-five years before his retirement. He was a founder of the Hawkeye Motorcycle Club.
