SHERIDAN, Frank J. (Ireland--Unknown) Frank Sheridan became a naturalized citizen in 1876 while living in Dubuque. (1) He turned down an opportunity to run for political office on the Knights of Labor ticket in 1887. (2)

Sheridan worked in Dubuque as the manager of the editorial department of the INDUSTRIAL LEADER and held an equivalent position with the DUBUQUE TIMES. (3) Around 1894, Sheridan, a statistician, moved to Washington, D. C. to work for the Department of Labor. His son, John, an alumnus of ST. JOSEPH COLLEGE became a cartoonist with the Hearst newspaper, the San Francisco Examiner. (4)

Despite being away from Dubuque, Sheridan remained useful to the city. The Iowa chapter of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS donated $50,000 in 1904 to the Catholic University of Washington, D.C. The money, presented by Sheridan and Congressman Frank Wade of the Second Iowa District, was to fund a chair in the new department of Secular History. (5) In 1908 he represented a group of local citizens which presented a flag to Gottfried BLOCKLINGER. (6)

Sheridan returned to Dubuque occasionally as when in 1892 he was collecting information on building and loan associations.
