SATURDAY NIGHT CLUB
SATURDAY NIGHT CLUB. An organization of twelve men interested in developing their public speaking abilities, the Club was begun in 1890. (1) The name of the club was derived from its day of meeting during the winter months at the home of members. Two members at each meeting delivered prepared speeches. This was followed by a dinner prepared by the host that evening and then five minute impromptu speeches by each person present. One member each year the club presented an elaborate dinner for wives and/or friends of the members. In 1895 members included Harry Ennis TREDWAY, Eugene ADAMS, and Judson Keith DEMING. (2)
In 1894 at its first meeting in January, two speeches were given: "The Sociological Relations of the Society and Literate Women of the Day" and "The Development of the Character of Man." (3)
