RYDER, Thomas. (Dubuque, IA, May, 9, 1863--Dubuque, IA, July 18, 1935). Ryder was twenty-one years old when he began playing in the major leagues on July 22, 1884 with the St. Louis Maroons. He played mostly left field in eight games and was at bat twenty-eight times. Records show he had a hitting average of .250. The team placed first in the 1884 Union Association. His last game was August 6, 1884. (1)

Ryder was a fireman in Dubuque for many years from 1890-1930 and also worked at the CONNOLLY CARRIAGE MANUFACTORY with his brothers James and Joe, Jr. (2)
