PULS, Alfred. (Mar. 2, 1883--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 11, 1991). In January 1968, the TELEGRAPH HERALD published Puls' "Sidewalks of Dubuque." The commentary, written in response to an action of the Dubuque City Council, launched the writer on a widely recognized life of editorial comment on a variety of topics including the VIETNAM WAR and legalized bingo.

A salesman for 44 years at BUETTELL BROTHERS COMPANY in Dubuque, Puls held membership in the Masonic Lodge for 77 years and the United Commercial Travelers business association for 67 years.
