Jane Petrek

PETREK, Jane . (Joliet, IL-- ). Petrek earned her B.A. in 1972 from the University of St. Francis, M.Ed. (1975) from Northern Illinois University, and the Ed.D (1990) from Vanderbilt University. She was employed as the assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at the elementary school district in Carol Stream, Illinois, a position she had held since 1994.

She came to the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT in 1996 as the Assistant Superintendent under Superintendent Joel MORRIS. (1) After Morris moved to another job, she was named interim superintendent in September, 1999 and superintendent in November. In March, 2002 Petrek was faced with a worst-case scenario of needing to reduce 26.5 jobs to achieve a portion of a $2.5 million reduction in the budget. She announced her retirement in April. She served from 1999-2002 and believed that technological progress and the implementation of all-day, every-day kindergarten were accomplishments for which she was the most pleased. (2)

In 2008 Petrek was the Department Chair of Educational Leadership at Lewis University southwest of Chicago.
