PENTHOUSE (FIRST). Dubuque's first penthouse was a 12 x 12 foot structure constructed on the top of the LICORICE PRODUCTS COMPANY factory at Second and Iowa STREETS. Occupied by the company owner, Martin B. ANDERFINGER, it had a double door on either of the four sides and all were screened permitting a cooling breeze. The double floor has a top facing of oak with the entire house insulated with balsam wool. The roof was shingled.

The penthouse was equipped with electricity, running water, steam heat, and radio. All the furniture was metal. Entry was gained from the east side using a walk constructed through a skylight from the factory below.
