MOCO MERCER AWARDS
MOCO MERCER AWARDS. The Moco Mercer Awards, named in honor of Kenneth E. MERCER, was an annual presentation made by the Dubuque JAYCEES. The first awards, made in 1971, were presented to Tom Danner, state wrestling champion from WAHLERT CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL; Dan McClimon, LORAS COLLEGE track coach and coach of the year in 1970; and Gerald "Red" MCALEECE. Lynn (Werner) Phillips, of Mobile, Alabama, played volleyball, basketball, and softball from 1981 to 1984, and she was a football trainer for the 1983 and 1984 seasons. One of her proudest accomplishments was being the first female athlete to be awarded the Moco Mercer Memorial Scholarship, honoring her participation in three varsity sports for four years, being a football trainer for two seasons, and graduating cum laude.
