Minnewawa Club. Opposite the present JOHN DEERE DUBUQUE WORKS, the club was located on an island until the lock and dam backing up the MISSISSIPPI RIVER submerged the land.

The site was used by a number of local groups. Members of the Club held a musical and dance at "their new home on the island near EAGLE POINT in June 1911. (1) In July, 1911 a number of boats carried local druggists to the island for a day of relaxation. The island was equipped with several large buildings. (2) The Dubuque Registered Nurses Association were entertained by a launch party in September, 1911 to Minnewawa Island followed by a potluck supper. (3)

Most of the old-timers agreed that the area was used often during PROHIBITION.
