LANE, Loras Thomas. (Most Rev.) (Cascade, IA, Oct. 19, 1910--Rockford, IL, July 22, 1968). Second auxiliary bishop of Dubuque. Archbishop Leo BINZ consecrated Lane, named auxiliary on May 31, 1951, on August 20, 1951, in ST. RAPHAEL'S CATHEDRAL. He served as president of LORAS COLLEGE until his transfer in 1956 to the See of Rockford, Illinois.

Lane, a graduate of Notre Dame, enrolled in Loras College in 1933 before being sent to the North American College in Rome. In 1937 he was ordained in Rome and returned to Iowa as assistant pastor at Nativity Parish in Dubuque. He was appointed to the faculty of Loras and served as the Dean of Men from 1941 to 1943. From 1944 to 1951, Lane acted as secretary to Archbishop Henry P. ROHLMAN while serving as vice-chancellor, chancellor, and president of Loras College.
