JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF THE HEAERTLAND. The national organization of Junior Achievement started in 1919 and was devoted to teaching high school students about the free enterprise system. Junior Achievement of the Tri-States, Inc., later renamed Junior Achievement of the Heartland, was incorporated on August 11, 1967 by William G. KRUSE of FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE, Paul D. Dale of THERMOLYNE CORPORATION, C. W. Edmonds of INTERSTATE POWER COMPANY, and W. M. Spain of Blackhawk Industries. In 1982 the local organization established the JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT BUSINESS HALL OF FAME which by 2016 had installed 61 members. (1)

From its initial focus on high school students who organized companies with corporate sponsors, sold stock in their company, manufactured and sold products, and repaid "stock holders" at the end of a year, JA developed programs for each school level. Thousands of volunteers taught elementary, middle and high school students about entrepreneurship, work readiness and financial literacy. (2) JA impacted over 4.6 million U.S. students in more than 201,000 classrooms during 2014-2015. (3)

The 1987 through 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed 1501 Jackson. In 2016 it was located at 2728 Asbury Road.
