JOHANNSEN, Bret. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 25, 1926--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 17, 1996). Employed forty-two years with the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT, Johannsen, the son of Wilfred JOHANNSEN, served as a teacher, dean of students, associate principal and retired as the principal of JONES JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL.

Deeply involved in athletics, Johannsen was a certified football, basketball and track official for the Iowa High School Athletic Association and a member of the DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Hall of Fame Committee. He was involved with the City of Dubuque Leisure Services Recreation program as a player and coach and coached the Thursday Happy Joe's II Basketball Team.

A member of the Iowa State Education Association, Johannsen served as president of the DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION and was a member of the alumnae board of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE from 1990 to 1995. He was also a member of the Dubuque Teachers' Credit Union board.
