HAAS, Julius W.
HAAS, Julius W. (Kingdom of Wurtemburg, Germany, Oct. 19, 1829--Stuttgart, Germany, August, 1904). Haas, a partner in the firm of JUNKERMANN & HAAS, 776 Main Street, began learning the drug business when only fourteen years of age. He emigrated to America in 1853 and came to Dubuque in 1854. In 1878 he was a partner of E. A. Linehan on 12th and Iowa. A article recalled him purchasing "Jacob," a cockatoo, both of which were still there thirty-eight years later. (1)
In association with his partner, Karl Frederick "Otto" JUNKERMANN, he established the firm of Junkermann & Haas. (2) In 1890 he was one of several pharmacists recommended to the governor to serve as pharmacy commissioner. (3)
Outside of business, Haas was a member of the Concordia Bowling Club which included in its membership many of the prominent men of the city. (4)
He left Dubuque for a journey to Germany and decided to stay. (5)
