FULLER, Lynn S.
FULLER, Lynn S. (Cedar Rapids, IA, Dec. 4, 1924--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 5, 2009). The son of Lynn G. FULLER, Lynn S. trained in the bank industry in 1946 in the Marquette Bank in Minneapolis. In 1950 he followed his father to Maquoketa, Iowa, and ran the Jackson State Bank until 1964.
In that year Lynn S. Fuller was asked to come to Dubuque as vice-president of DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY to manage the bond account and loan portfolio. In 1967, he was elected to the board of directors and named executive vice president. While serving as executive vice president in 1980, he was elected chief executive officer. The Fuller family gradually increased their ownership of bank stock, and he became president and chief executive officer of the bank in 1982. Fuller held this position until he retired in 1987.
In 1981, as the chief executive officer of Dubuque Bank and Trust, Fuller led the formation of the bank's holding company, HEARTLAND FINANCIAL USA, INC. and was elected one of Heartland's founding directors. He was named chairman of the board and chief executive officer at Heartland in 1988 and served in this capacity until his retirement in 2000. It was during his leadership of the bank that the acquisition and renovation of the WALSH STORE were completed adding valuable business space to the bank's operations.
Although devoting most of his time to seeing Dubuque Bank and Trust emerge as one of the area's financial giants, Fuller served as a member of the DUBUQUE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. He was also a member of the DUBUQUE SHOOTING SOCIETY 990 Club and the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.
