FRITSCHEL, George J. (Saint Sebald, IA, May 24, 1867-Dubuque, IA, Oct. 5, 1941). Pastor. Fritschel, from 1906 to 1935 a professor of church history at WARTBURG THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, was particularly interested in plans to create more unity among Lutheran church bodies. He served for many years on a commission to bring this about. Fritschel contributed many articles to historical publications on the history of the Lutheran Church and wrote The History of the Lutheran Church in America, The Formula of Concord,and Sources and Documents on the History of the Iowa Synod.
