FORESTER, James Sr. (New York, 1830--Dubuque, IA, January 22, 1899). After several years in the mercantile business in New York, Forester moved to Decatur Illinois in 1874 until 1879 when he moved to Dubuque.

He established his overall manufacturing business in the upper two stories of the Globe Building over PLATT BROTHERS COMPANY store near 5th and Main. Business developed so quickly that he relocated the business to a new building on Iowa between 7th and 8th. In addition he took on C. S. Robinson, an employee of the store, and James Forester, Jr. to form JAMES FORESTER AND COMPANY. Around 1891 the business was moved to a larger building on Fourth and Iowa STREETS.
