EVANS, Joseph E. (Dubuque, IA--Palharn Manor, NY, Dec. 27, 1971). Evans, a graduate of Loras Academy, was appointed editor of the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal in 1969. This capped a career that included his service as a foreign correspondent during WORLD WAR II, editorial writer, foreign editor of the Journal and associate editor of the editorial page.

Evans received awards from the Freedoms Foundation and the Society of the Silurians, a group of newspaper men with twenty-five or more year’s experience. Evans was also the author of Through Society Windows based on his travels in the Soviet Union during 1956.
