DUBUQUE URBAN FARM
DUBUQUE URBAN FARM. Located in 2018 at 1241 Jackson Street, Dubuque Urban Farm was operated by Rachel Schmidt-Boeke and her husband, Craig. The recipient of a $2,500 Sustainable Dubuque grant award, the operation not only grew food for their Community Supported Agriculture members but taught two community events to help education residents of the Washington Neighborhood in how to use fresh, local produce. Cooking lessons were provided to the residents and to others at the MULTICULTURAL FAMILY CENTER and DUBUQUE RESCUE MISSION. (1)
The grant was used to install raised garden beds and rain barrels and convert a carport into a greenhouse. While the operation was centered on Jackson Street, most of the crops were grown at the Sinsinawa Mound Collaborative Farm in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. In 2019 the goal was to reduce that amount and increase the "in Dubuque" operation. (2)
In 2019 the Dubuque Urban Farm received an $890 grant from the Dubuque County Board of Supervisors. (3)
