DOLPHIN CUSTOM CABINETRY, INC. With customers throughout eastern Iowa, the Quad Cities; Madison and Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Chicago; New York: and New Jersey, Dolphin Cabinetry at 3160 Cedar Cross Court ranked in 2011 as one of Dubuque's greatest business success stories.
With eight years of experience building custom cabinetry, Dean J. "Moe" Dolphin returned from California in 1990, rented a 2,000-square foot shop, and employed two people. He later purchased land and constructed a 6,000-square foot facility adding a showroom, machinery and two more employees. In 1997, Dolphin added 7,000-square feet with more room for production, a state-of-the-art spray room and additional employees.
In 2010, Dolphin's staff with co-owner and wife Cathy included ten designers, cabinetmakers, installers, and office/showroom personnel. Products included but were not limited to armoires, baths, bars, bedroom furniture, china hutches, entertainment centers, fireplace mantels and surrounds, and office furniture. Woods used included ash, oak, birch, maple, hickory, alder, quarter sawn oak, walnut, cherry, and mahogany.
