DAVISON, Jon. (Aledo, IL- ). Davison, a 1961 graduate of the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE, served as head basketball coach at the university and established a record of 300 wins in 27 seasons years. He was named NCAA Coach of the Year (1987), recipient of the Paul Maaske Award for outstanding small college coach in Iowa (1989-1990), and Coach of the Year in the Iowa Collegiate Conference (1987, 1989). In addition to his coaching duties, Davison was an associate professor in the physical education department, head golf coach, assistant football coach, head of the physical education department, and athletic director. (2) Before beginning his university duties, Davison taught science for one year at WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL and one year at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL.

Davison began University of Dubuque basketball camps in 1968. In addition to attracting scores of potential basketball stars like Kevin KUNNERT, they featured such speakers as former Iowa and Arizona coach Lute Olson. Remembered for being able to shoot free throws blindfolded, Davison kept both eyes open during Senior Olympics in 2011 and 2012 when he qualified for the nationals in the same activity. (3)

Davison coached twenty-seven years for the University of Dubuque. In 1995 CLARKE COLLEGE announced that Davison would begin coaching basketball for their Crusaders. In 2006 Davison was honored as the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference coach of the year after guiding the Crusaders to the first league championship in the program's 21-year history. Davison hit a milestone in November, 2007 when his Crusaders handed him his 500th collegiate coaching victory with an 84-71 victory over No. 8 (NCAA Division III) LORAS COLLEGE in the first game played in the new Duhawks' Athletic Wellness Center. Davison announced his retirement in 2008. The University of Dubuque officially dedicated Jon Davison Court in the Stoltz Sports Center on Saturday, February 7, 2009. In December, 2013 the first annual Jon Davison Holiday Tournament was held on the same court. (5)
