CONNOLLY, Michael W. (Dubuque, IA, Oct. 31, 1945- ). A career teacher with fifteen years experience at DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL, Connolly worked for the election of Robert M. CARR and Thomas J. JOCHUM who supported collective bargaining rights for public employees. Becoming interested in politics, he campaigned for and was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives in 1978 representing District 35 on the Democratic ticket and served eight years on the House Education Committee. He also served on the House Transportation and Economic Development committees.

In 1989 Connolly won a special election to fill the unexpired term of Robert M. CARR in the Iowa Senate. In 1990 he was appointed chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He retired from the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT in 2002 after teaching thirty years. In 2008 he retired from the Iowa Senate.

Connolly served as a board member of the Dubuque County Democratic Party and Dubuque Child Care. Connolly is the husband of Martha CONNOLLY.
