BUETTELL, John Lewis (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 16, 1856--Dubuque, IA, 1902, Nov. 22, 1902) Buettel graduated from the local schools before entering the insurance business of Thomas Daylor. When Daylor left the city, Buettel joined George L. TORBERT. Upon the death of Torbert in 1896, Buettel opened an insurance, real estate and loan office on Main and Seventh STREETS.

He served many years as secretary of the YOUNG MEN'S LIBRARY ASSOCIATION and was treasurer of the DUBUQUE BOAT CLUB and the DUBUQUE CHORAL CLUB.
