BOGAS, George. (Garea, Greece, Dec. 26, 1922--Dubuque, IA, July 16, 2013). Employed by the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY for thirty-three years, Bogas gave 47 years of faithful and continuous voluntary service, beginning in 1963, to the membership of DUPACO COMMUNITY CREDIT UNION. He served credit union members by providing outstanding leadership and actively participating on virtually all credit union board committees. To his great surprise, George was awarded the Iowa Credit Union League Cooperative Spirit Award in 1999.

During WORLD WAR II, Bogas served with the United States Military’s 745th Tank Battalion in the European Theater. He continued active involvement in veterans’ affairs as the regular Wednesday driver for the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Association. Bogas voluntarily logged 5,431 hours of driving time and 185,439 miles in transporting 2,372 individual veterans by van to the Iowa City Veterans Administration Hospital for care and treatment.
