BEEKIE, Brian Raj
BEEKIE, Brian Raj. (Guyana, South America- ). In September 1990, Beekie began work as a multicultural educational consultant for the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. In his role, Beekie was scheduled to spend 50 percent of his time in student instruction with a major focus on grades five through ten and with other ages on an as-needed basis. He was also to have instructional sessions with each elementary talented and gifted class and provide small group instruction for identified groups. Of the remaining time, 25 percent was to be spent as a staff resource and 25 percent in community liaison serving as a resource and/ or member of parent organizations and community advisory groups. Beekie’s employment came at a time of heightened community awareness of race-related incidents both in and outside of school.
Beekie earned a B.A. degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, with majors in business administration and organizational communication and a minor in Spanish. He earned the M.A. degree from North Dakota State University, Fargo, North Dakota, with a major in intercultural communication and a minor in counseling.
