GRODE, William F. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Editor. Encouraged by Father John S. BAUMAN, pastor of SACRED HEART CHURCH, Grode published the CATHOLIC PILGRIM beginning in 1893. A graduate of the DUBUQUE ACADEMY OF MUSIC, he had previously worked as a proofreader and typesetter for the Palmer-Winall Printing Company in Dubuque. Grode eventually moved to Los Angeles, California, and resumed work as a proofreader for the Los Angeles Gazette.
