CONZETT, Jacob
CONZETT, Jacob. (Schiers, Bezirk Prattigau/Davos, Graubunden, Switzerland, Jan. 16, 1834--Cheviot, Hamilton County, Ohio Oct. 24, 1915). The Conzett family emigrated to America when Jacob was twelve years old. After trying many jobs, he decided to study for the ministry. He was the fourth student of Adrian VAN VLIET. (1) Following successful pastorates in Iowa, he was chosen to succeed Van Vliet as the head of the German Presbyterian School of the Northwest in Dubuque.
Conzett led the school which eventually became the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE for eleven years before retiring in 1881. He returned to preaching in German churches in Beloit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; and Cincinnati, Ohio. (2)
