ALEXANDER, Stephanie. Rabbai Alexander completed her undergraduate work at Tulane University and her seminary work at Hebrew Union College with studies in Jerusalem, Cincinnati, and Manhattan. She held a master's degree in Hebrew literature and religious education and was ordained in 2003.  Her husband, Rabbi Aaron Sherman served as the rabbi at Temple Judan in Cedar Rapids.

In July 2006, Rabbi Stephanie Alexander became the first female ordained rabbi in the 175-year history of [[TEMPLE BETH EL]]. In 2008 she was commuting once per month from her home in Cedar Rapids for regular Shabbat (Sabbath) services and any religious holidays. In addition to leading worship services, she met with members for counseling, held adult religious education sessions, and prepared potential converts to Judiasm.
