SWEET, Harold. (Storm Lake, IA- ). Athletic Director, DUBUQUE COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT. Capping a distinguished thirty-four-year career in sports and educational administration, Sweet was elected to the Iowa High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1971. He was named the Iowa athletic director of the year and national runner-up in 1976. Sweet was the recipient of the distinguished service award of the National Federation of State High School Athletic Associations in 1979.

Sweet was instrumental in starting Dubuque's intra-city sports competition in 1964 and beginning the Washington Junior High Relays. During his career, he guided the improvement of Dalzell Field with its track increased from one-fifth to one-quarter mile. A new gymnasium was built in 1954 with a new football field, all-weather track, and softball fields in following years. Sweet retired in 1982.
